I'm trying to understand the relation between performance units and spans.

Resolution
Our legacy plans used Performance Units to track the root span as a Transaction, which counted as 1 performance unit.
On our latest plans, we track every individual span in a trace as 1 span.
Two major benefits of the span-based approach to quota metering is that:
- spans are indexed for search on our latest plans
- our latest plans include more span units out of the box which can accommodate more traces per month before upgrading than in the past (based on typical usage patterns).
