Issue
I'm creating a new project and the final slug does not match the project name I set.
Applies To
- SaaS Sentry customers on all plans.
- All Sentry Regions.
Symptoms
- A new project or slug has a suffix appended to it.
Resolution
Organisations and project slugs are used in most operations within Sentry and must be unique. Two projects in the same organisation cannot have the same slug, as well as two organisations in Sentry cannot have the same slug.
To ensure uniqueness, Sentry will add a suffix consisting of a dash (-) and two random letters whenever you try to create a project or organisation with an existing slug.
For example: if you have a Javascript project and try to create a new one, the new slug will be something like javascript-gg.
If you would like to use a project slug without the prefix, you can either delete or rename the existing project in your organisation.
In case of an organisation, if you or one of your colleagues have access to the existing organisation you can rename or deleted the older organisation. Sentry will not rename or delete an organisation to "free" a slug.
